Gosens departs national team, Raum called up as replacement

Shortly after Germany's senior men's national team squad was announced on Friday, it was revealed that David Raum will take the place of Robin Gosens whilst the latter takes parental leave.
The German senior men's national team squad for the November international break has already been amended. FC Union Berlin left-back Robin Gosens will sit the coming round out on parental leave. The 29-year-old is expecting his second child in the coming days. RB Leipzig left-back David Raum will take Gosens' place.

Raum - who was part of Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann's squad during the October international break - initially missed out on a call-up this time. Goose's featured in Nagelsmann's starting XI during the new Bundestrainer's first two matches last month, with Raum coming off the bench for a 25-minute relief shift during the 2-2 draw with Mexico.

Raum traversed some form dips last season - his first in the RB Leipzig tricot - and also didn't exactly receive rave reviews for his work on Hansi Flick's Nationalmannschaft. The 25-year-old has nevertheless gotten off to a stellar start in his second season in Saxony. Raum has featured in all 17 of head-coach Marco Rose's starting XIs this season.

Raum scored three goals and registered four assists across all competitions this year. Gosens, by contrast, has been struggling along with his club team. Though he has scored four league goals this season, a plethora of defensive errors have left him receiving low match marks in the German press.
