Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl is looking to improve the depth of the club's central defence, Sport Bild understands.

Reportedly, Gladbach have three centre-backs on their list of transfer targets for the summer transfer window: Hertha BSC's Niklas Stark, VfB Stuttgart's Marc-Oliver Kempf and William Saliba who plays for French side Saint Etienne.

Stark, 23, has made 17 appearances for Hertha BSC this season and is under contract until 2022.

Kempf only joined Stuttgart on a contract until 2022 from Freiburg last summer, but the 24-year-old is likely to be on the move again if the Swabian club get relegated from the Bundesliga.

Saliba, a 17-year-old French under-19 international, has broken through at Saint-Etienne this season and has made 10 appearances for the club's senior side so far.
