Much to the delight of Daniel Bauer after their thrashing in Bavaria last Sunday, VfL Wolfsburg bounced back to winning ways against St.Pauli tonight.

“It was the tough game we expected. St. Pauli were incredibly compact, very disciplined, and defended passionately, giving us very little space,” the VfL coach said at full-time.

"In the first half, you could still tell that the defeat in Munich was still weighing on us. In the second half, it became a huge mental challenge for the lads.

"I'm very pleased with how the team handled it. As the game wore on, we could have lost our heads. But that didn't happen; we kept control.

"We tried to inject some new energy with attacking substitutions. Then Dzenan [Pejcinovic] was in the right place, continued his run, and secured us a very important victory," he added.

The Lower Saxony club will hope to erase the lactic acid from their legs in the next two days before they host a struggling 1.FC Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon.
