Fears are growing at AC Milan that German national team Niclas Füllkrug has a broken toe and will be sidelined for the time being.

"Füllkrug already knocked out," wrote Corriere dello Sport, while the Gazzetta dello Sport rules him out of action for the time being.

Füllkrug will miss Thursday's match against Como 1907 and "almost certainly will not be available for Sunday's game against Lecce."

Milan hope to have the 32-year-old available against AS Roma on January 25; it depends on treatments and Füllkrug's pain threshold.

Other media outlets, such as Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica, reported a significantly longer recovery period – around one month.

The national team's next fixtures are at the end of March – Füllkrug left West Ham in January in the hope of getting more game time
