The hitherto incomplete semi-final field of the 2023/24 German DFB Pokal is now officially set after 1. FC Saarbrücken's 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last night. Semi-finalists 1. FC Kaiserslautern will now have to travel to the Ludwigsparkstadion to face last night's surprise winners. Friedhelm Funkel's FCK face a tough test on a notoriously unreliable pitch.

Saarbrücken's planned hosting of Gladbach was initially postponed after heavy rainfall rendered the Saarland club's playing surface untenable. Heavy rainfall impeded the flow of the match last night as well, with both teams playing tentative football for fear of incurring injury during the second half. Had Gladfbach won, Lautern would have hosted the foals at the Betzenberg.

The two semi-final fixtures will take place on April 2nd and April 3rd, respectively. Both fixtures will be broadcast on German public television. German public broadcaster ARD will handle Lautern's visit to Saarbrücken on Tuesday while ZDF shall carry a highly intriguing encounter between Fortuna Düsseldorf and league-leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Wednesday.

The two fixtures:

Tuesday, April 2nd

FC Saarbrücken-Kaiserslautern (20:45)

Wednesday, April 3rd

Fortuna Düsseldorf-Bayer 04 Leverkusen (20:45)
