Hertha BSC have opened talks with Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka about a potential winter move, according to Lothar Matthäus.

The former German international has received information that Hertha boss Michael Preetz has been in England to look into the possibility of bringing Xhaka to the German capital.

"I have been informed that contact has already been made with Xhaka. Preetz has been in London for negotiations," Matthäus told Sky.

Preetz refuses to rule out anything and reveals that Hertha are considering a number of players at the moment.

"I'm currently travelling a lot. We also have other opportunities in this transfer window. We have ideas," Preetz said.

Hertha have also been linked with Tottenham's Victor Wanyama as well as Julian Weigl and Mario Götze from Borussia Dortmund.
