Schalke boss Jochen Schneider backs David Wagner to turn things around

Schalke boss Jochen Schneider wants to hold on to David Wagner despite the team's bad run of form.
Schalke 04 head of sport Jochen Schneider has backed head coach David Wagner to turn things around at Veltins-Arena.

After a strong first half of the season, Wagner and Schalke have fallen into a slump in 2020, having failed to take a win in their last 10 league games following Wednesday's 1-2 loss to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Schneider admits that Schalke 04 are in a 'clear crisis' and 'have lost their way', but says a discussion about the coach 'would be out of place'.

"You should use every crisis to draw the right conclusions. We want to get back on the right path together with David Wagner for the new season and continue where we were interrupted in January or February," Schneider told Sky and added:

"He is firm, aggressive and motivated to turn things around."

In their next game, ninth-placed Schalke face relegation-threatened Werder Bremen at home.
