Wiese: Werder squad 'not good enough' for Europe

Former Werder Bremen keeper Tim Wiese says the club's squad isn't good enough to qualify for Europe.

Before the start of the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann said that the club's biggest ambition this season is getting into Europe.

However, according to former Werder keeper Tim Wiese, the squad is simply not strong enough for that.

"I can't imagine that. The quality of the squad is not good enough. We should not forget that the competitors have also improved their squads," Wiese told Bild and added:

"The fans are happy that the club have set ambitious goals, and that's fine. The players are now challenged to win matches in the beginning to start a good run and keep the euphoria going."

Werder Bremen began the Bundesliga season with a 1-1 draw against Hannover 96.
