Stefan Kuntz considers his future as Germany U21 coach

Germany U21 coach Stefan Kuntz admits he is thinking about taking on a new challenge after guiding his side to the Euro title.
Stefan Kuntz has cast doubt on his future as Germany U21 coach after clinching the second European Championship title of his five-year tenure.

Kuntz is still under contract until 2023, but says he will think about his future after the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he will be in charge of the German team.

"After Tokyo, I'll put my thoughts in order and let it all sink in," Kuntz told Bild and added:

"It's also about what new goals looks like, and what they can look like. Do I need a new challenge, does the new year group represent enough challenge for me? I have to reflect on what I have in the job I'm doing now."

According to Bild, Kuntz was 'disappointed' that he wasn't considered an option to replace Joachim Löw.

Hansi Flick was appointed the successor, although Kuntz was once promised by DFB general manager Oliver Bierhoff that he would be first in line to take over Löw's job, per the German tabloid.

"We agreed to have a conversation, which did not take place. At a certain point in time, Hansi Flick emerged as the preferred candidate. In this respect, it was understandable."
