Confirmed: Holstein Kiel snap up Lewis Holtby

Lewis Holtby is back in Germany, where he will be playing for Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga.
Holstein Kiel have announced the capture of former Schalke 04, Tottenham and Hamburger SV midfielder Lewis Holtby on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the 2. Bundesliga outfit.

"With Lewis Holtby, we were able to sign an internationally experienced man for the number 8/10 position, whom we trust to quickly take on responsibility and who should give our appearance on the pitch more structure and order," said Holstein Kiel managing director for sport Uwe Stöver.

"I really wanted to return to Germany," said Lewis Holtby, who has spent the last two seasons at English Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

"The 2. Bundesliga is insanely attractive. There are an incredible number of teams from the north, so there will be a lot of derbies. And Holstein has caused a stir in recent years with their attractive, attacking style of play.

"I'm really looking forward to contributing my experience and qualities as part of the team and successfully shaping what will undoubtedly be a challenging path."
