As expected, Dortmund and Duranville have parted ways with immediate effect. The Belgian international has signed a contract with Lyon until 2031, with Ruhr Nachrichten reporting that the transfer fee is in the region of €8.5 million.
Duranville joined Borussia Dortmund from RSC Anderlecht in January 2023 as one of Belgium’s brightest young talents, but his time in Germany was repeatedly disrupted by injuries. As a result, the attacking midfielder made just 15 Bundesliga appearances, along with nine in the UEFA Champions League and one in the DFB-Pokal.
His only competitive goal for the Black and Yellows came in August 2024, when he found the net in a DFB-Pokal victory over Phönix Lübeck. He also featured twice for Dortmund during the Club World Cup.
Despite his injury setbacks at club level, Duranville still earned his senior debut for Belgium, making his first international appearance in a 3-1 victory over Israel in September 2024.
The second half of last season saw the 20-year-old spend time on loan at FC Basel, where he impressed with two goals and one assist in 16 Swiss Super League appearances.
“We thank Juju for three and a half years in black and yellow and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career, as well as all the best to him and his family,” said Borussia Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken.
