Borussia Dortmund suffered a major blow in April when Nico Schlotterbeck was ruled out with a meniscus tear.

Initial reports suggested that the 25-year-old would likely be sidelined until the end of October, but according to Sport Bild, it now looks like he will return much earlier.

The report states that Schlotterbeck is well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and could be back as early as the end of September.

Schlotterbeck was able to resume running training last week and is expected to join the team’s training camp in Austria from August 4 to 9 to continue his rehab program.

Sport Bild also reports that Dortmund are aiming to finalize a contract extension with Schlotterbeck until 2030 once he is fully fit again.
