With former Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix set to complete his move from Crystal Palace to Chelsea, the UEFA Conference League winners improved their bid to Augsburg for his potential replacement, Chrislain Matsima.

After their €20 million bid was rejected by the Bundesliga side, Sky Sports reported the South Londoners have now sent an increased €25 million bid to sign the 24-year-old. The Frenchman has already reached a full agreement with the Premier League side.

Matsima permanently joined Augsburg from Monaco last summer for €5 million. After his strong performances for 18 months, he missed 15 games due to a serious injury last term. However, he made his return at the back end of the season as Augsburg secured one of their best league finishes in Bundesliga.

Augsburg received their record transfer fee a decade ago with Chelsea’s €26 million signing of Ghanaian international Abdul Rahman Baba.

The Bavarians continued their preparation for the new season with a 1-1 draw with Saarbrücken on Saturday. Mert Kömür, who is linked with a move to Hull City, scored the late equalizer with an olímpico (a goal from a direct corner-kick).
