VfL Wolfsburg striker Dzenan Pejcinovic has been heavily linked with a move to VfB Stuttgart in recent weeks, but a move has yet to materialise.

Speaking to German outlet Zeitungsverlag Waiblingen, Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has now confirmed the Bundesliga side's interest in the 21-year-old. However, he added:

“We have to remain professional. The player has a contract with VfL Wolfsburg.

“He is doing pre-season with VfL and there is nothing more to say at this point.”

It was recently reported that Wolfsburg rejected Stuttgart's opening offer of €18 million, including bonuses, as they are holding out for a fee closer to €25 million.

While Wohlgemuth did not want to provide further details on the Pejcinovic situation, he was willing to offer a broader update on Stuttgart's transfer plans.

“Further transfer activity can still happen. It is quite possible that we will strengthen the squad further, possibly with a focus on the offensive positions.”
