Transfer expert Plettenberg questions why Bayern didn't sign Kennet Eichhorn

Bayer Leverkusen ultimately won the race for the Hertha BSC talent despite only signing bonuses preventing the Bavarian club from beating them to the midfielder.

One of Sky Germany's most reputable transfer journalists, Florian Plettenberg, can't fathom why Bayern Munich didn't snap up Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha BSC.

"It's simply impossible to logically explain why FC Bayern, let the Eichhorn deal fall through over a few million euros in signing bonuses," Plettenberg said on the pay TV channel.

“In the recent past have rubber-stamped exorbitantly expensive contract extensions with players like Alphonso Davies, Alex Nübel and Dayot Upamecano,” he added.

Given the teenager's immense potential and the German record champions' thinning options in midfield, Plettenberg feels it was negligent of the club to let Bayer Leverkusen sign him.

“Especially for a player everyone agrees will be a German international within the next one to two years. And in a position where Bayern have a need, both now and in the future,” he said.

Although they don't play in similar areas of the field, there is some good news for the Bavarian side today – Ismael Saibari will undergo a medical in the USA before joining Bayern.
