Jens Stage stepped up for Werder Bremen at the weekend, scoring twice to take his league goal tally to nine and secure the Green-Whites a vital 3-1 Nordderby win over Hamburger SV.

Speaking to Deichstube in the wake of the match, the club’s head of professional football, Clemens Fritz, underlined his desire to keep the Danish midfielder long term, describing him as the “heart” of the team.

“We have absolutely no interest in letting Jens leave in the summer,” Fritz underlined.

Head coach Daniel Thioune also hopes to continue working with Stage.

“Honestly, I’m very happy that he’s here, and I would like him to stay for a very long time. Our cooperation is very good.”

While there has been no official confirmation of the length of Stage’s contract, Deichstube reports that it runs until 2028.
