Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage has emerged as a possible replacement for Grischa Prömel at TSG Hoffenheim, according to Bild.

The report claims the 29-year-old is seen as one of the leading candidates to replace Prömel, who is set to join Stuttgart when his contract expires this summer.

No offer has been made so far, with the report adding that Hoffenheim could step up their pursuit if they secure qualification for the Champions League.

The Sinsheim side sit fifth in the Bundesliga table, level on points with fourth-placed Stuttgart, with three games remaining this season. Intriguingly, the two sides face off this weekend.

Werder’s demands are expected to be high, given Stage’s importance to the team and the fact he still has two years remaining on his contract.

The Danish midfielder is Werder’s top scorer this season, having found the net 10 times.
