Hannover could only secure a draw at home against second-placed Paderborn on matchday 30 of the 2. Bundesliga. The point was enough to send Ralf Kettemann's men top of the standings before Schalke’s home game against bottom-placed Preußen Münster on Sunday.
Felix Götze put the visitors ahead with his first goal of the season five minutes before the break. Benjamin Källman, who was back in the starting lineup to replace the injured striker Benedikt Pichler, scored the equalizer with his 14th of the campaign in the 78th minute.
Successive home draws slowed Hannover's surge in the promotion race. With Elversberg's big win over Karlsruhe on Friday, Christian Titz's side even dropped back to fourth place. Darmstadt and Hertha will have opportunities to close the gap with them if they win their respective games on Sunday.
