“This means a lot to me!” - ter Stegen reflects on Germany comeback

Marc-André ter Stegen has expressed his delight at returning to the Germany national team after a difficult past two years.

The goalkeeper has endured significant injury problems during that time, limiting his opportunities both at club and international level. His return to the Germany squad therefore carries particular significance for the Ajax star.

“This means a lot to me,” ter Stegen said, as quoted by ESPN Netherlands. “I suffered a lot during my recovery.”

The 34-year-old added that he has remained focused on performing at his highest level despite the setbacks.

“I always try to give my best, to show the best version of myself, and I’m happy to be back,” ter Stegen explained.

For him, representing Germany remains particularly special regardless of his experience at the highest level.

“For every kid who plays football, it's a dream to play for their country,” he said.

He also highlighted how much the opportunity means following the challenges he has faced over the past two years.

“Even more so after the last two years, during which I wasn’t always able to play,” ter Stegen added.

ter Stegen will now look to re-establish himself within Jürgen Klopp’s Germany setup as the new head coach begins assessing his options ahead of the next major international tournament.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper has been in good form ever since his move to Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam this summer.
