Ex-Bayern Munich head coach Louis van Gaal has said he is "no longer bothered by cancer" after successful treatment.

The Netherlands native was at the helm between 2009-2011, winning a Bundesliga title, DfB-Pokal and a Champions League runner-up medal.

“I am feeling really well and can confirm that I am currently free from cancer," said the 73-year-old, in an interview with a Dutch TV talk show.

“Two years ago, I had a few operations. It was all bad then, but it has all worked out in the end. I am in the best possible hands.

“I have check-ups every few months, and that's going well. I'm getting fitter and fitter,” van Gaal explained.
