Werder Bremen’s managing director Clemens Fritz has given his backing to head coach Ole Werner, Sky Germany reports.

Bremen who were hot on the trail of the European places in the Bundesliga before the winter break, have hit a stumbling block in recent weeks.

Last night’s narrow 2-1 defeat to DfB Pokal opponents Arminia Bielefeld mounted further pressure on the club.

However, Fritz believes that gaffer Werner is doing his utmost to turn the negative run of form around.

"We can close the coaching issue straight away. He [Ole Werner] is not up for discussion at all. We see how focused he is, how solution-oriented he is in his work and what he gives the boys. There is no discussion about the coach.

"His focus is completely on current affairs. You don't need to come to him with other topics.

“In our eyes, he has done a good job in recent years and has developed the team step by step. I am sure that together we will pull ourselves out of this valley,” Fritz explained.

The club is already believed to be working on a contract extension with the 36-year-old boss whose current deal runs until 2026.

Bremen face VfL Wolfsburg this weekend, although things might be difficult given two of their stars are major doubts for the game
