DFB (German Football Association) president Bernd Neuendorf has revealed that he and the association's sporting leadership will reconvene with Julian Nagelsmann to discuss Germany's shock World Cup exit.
"After the bitter defeat to Paraguay and our elimination from the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, I sat down yesterday for an extended discussion with head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
"Also present was the sporting leadership team led by Andreas Rettig and Rudi Völler. We are all in agreement that our performance at the World Cup fell short of our expectations.
"In the coming days, we will calmly and thoroughly examine the reasons why the team was unable to fulfill its potential and failed to live up to both its own expectations and those of German football.
"In light of such a severe setback and with the challenges ahead, we cannot and will not simply carry on as if nothing has happened.
"We would like to thank all the fans who supported us so magnificently in the United States and Canada, as well as those back home. We are all deeply disappointed that our journey together has come to an end so early".
Pressure was already mounting on the shoulders of Nagelsmann prior to the World Cup. A 7-1 win over Curaçao briefly lifted that before two unconvincing games against Côte d'Ivoire (2-1 W) and Ecuador (2-1 L).
Heading into the tournament's Round of 32 against relative minnows Paraguay, a stunning defeat on penalties has further increased the public's doubt surrounding the 38-year-old.
