Dortmund drive seven past Celtic in ruthless demolition

Borussia Dortmund welcomed Celtic FC to the Rührpott this evening for their second UEFA Champions League outing of the season. Şahin's side made light work of the Scottish champions in a thumping 7-1 win.

After a rousing rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, a song fervently belted out by both clubs' fans, the action took centre stage with goals aplenty early on. Dortmund opened the scoring from the spot as Schmeichel brought Gittens to ground. Emre Can stroked the resulting spot-kick to the roof of the net. Celtic responded instantly as Dazaen Maeda crept in behind Can to convert from close range. However, BVB availed of Celtic's high line as Brandt slipped in Adeyemi who thumped home.

Chances continued to fall in favour of Die Schwarzgelben, but Schmeichel remained alert to deflect two efforts. Celtic refused to learn their lessons as BVB continued to threaten. A third goal arrived on the half-hour as Adeyemi pinched Maeda's pockets and unfurled a rocket into the top left corner from an acute angle. A second penalty enabled Serhou Guirassy to join in the fun as Engels caught Adeyemi to draw the foul. A fifth arrived minutes later as Adeyemi bagged his hattrick as he skipped passed Maeda to drill past the Danish shot-stopper.

A second-half injury to hattrick hero Adeyemi made for a slightly sour note to the restart. Julian Duranville replaced him, and the Belgian was somewhat unlucky to see Schmeichel parry his fine effort. Şahin made changes after the hour with Guirassy, Groß and Couto given an early rest. With his final act of the game, Guirassy led the Celtic defence on a dance. The Mali international turned Scales inside out before drilling inside the left post for 6-1.

All momentum in the game truly started to wind down as the game neared its conclusion, albeit nothing would silence the Südtribune who enjoyed every minute. Adam Idah almost bagged a late consolation goal but Kobel recovered to smother the header. Park Head may be called paradise, but BVB were in heaven as Felix Nmecha hammered home a seventh goal. Trusty's block ricocheted to the midfielder which he placed past Schmeichel whose dismayed expression told a thousand tales. Dortmund full value for their utterly ruthless win.
