Eliesse Ben Seghir has struggled to make his breakthrough at Bayer Leverkusen after completing a €32 million move from AS Monaco in the summer.

In fact, the 20-year-old hasn’t played a single minute in Leverkusen’s last four matches, spending each of them on the bench.

With time, however, Ben Seghir will get his opportunity to impress, Bayer Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand underlined after his side’s midweek 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal.

“Eli will get his chance, he’s a great player,” Hjulmand said at a press conference.

“It’s only a matter of time before he gets his opportunity.”

At the moment, it’s difficult for Ben Seghir to force his way in, with Alex Grimaldo and Ernest Poku combining well on the left flank.

“We’ve simply found a very good combination on the left side with Grimaldo and Poku,” Hjulmand said.

Ben Seghir will hope to return to action when Leverkusen travel to Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
