Borussia Dortmund will continue to be without captain Emre Can in the coming weeks.

The 31-year-old has missed the club’s opening games of the season due to ongoing groin issues and, according to local publication Ruhr Nachrichten, will remain sidelined for some time.

A return to action is not expected before October, the report states.

Dortmund plan to reintegrate Can gradually to avoid any setbacks following his lengthy absence.

The German international, who has made a total of 204 appearances for BVB in the past, has just one year left on his contract.
