World Champions Spain have beaten England 3-2 in the opening match of their Nations League campaign. The game could've ended differently, if Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane hadn't missed a crucial penalty in the 54th minute, when his country was leading 2-1.
The Bayern Munich striker slipped as he attempted to take the spot-kick, resulting in him double-hitting the ball.
"Unfortunate to slip in that moment, it happens sometimes," Kane said. "I tried to put power on it and my left foot just gave way, and obviously I ended up double-hitting the ball."
Kane refused to dwell on the mistake, putting it down to the nature of his position.
"That's the life of a footballer, the life of a striker," he added. "It didn't go my way in that second half."
The missed penalty was a rare setback for Kane from the spot, with the striker generally renowned for his reliability from 12 yards. However, Kane still managed to score for England, but it unfortunately wasn't enough on the day.
