Eugen Polanski, Nico Elvedi, and Kevin Diks applaud Kevin Stöger’s free-kick strike in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s victory against St. Pauli. The creative midfielder scored his first goal of the season in his 200th Bundesliga appearance.

“We said before the game that a set-piece could be the key, but we were expecting corners or crosses from free-kicks,” said Eugen Polanski as he didn’t hide his surprise. “The fact that Kevin Stöger interpreted it that way is obviously good for us. I'm extremely happy for him.”

Nico Elvedi wore the armband in the absence of the suspended Rocco Reitz. “It was a strenuous game with a lot of intense running,” said the center-back. “Stöger's goal was outstanding. I'm so happy for him. Now we go into the weekend with a good feeling, and are looking forward to the derby next week (vs. Köln)."

The Indonesian international Kevin Diks also praised Stöger’s strike. “Kevin Stöger's goal was outstanding,” added the penalty-kick specialist. “As soon as the ball left his foot, I could already feel that something special was about to happen. I'm so happy for him. He deserves this moment because he works so hard."
