Bayer Leverkusen have parted company with some big names this summer, with the departure of key attacker Florian Wirtz to Liverpool the most notable one.

But, as veteran midfielder Jonas Hofmann points out, Die Werkself have reacted by bringing in some promising young players, including Jarell Quansah from Liverpool and Ibrahim Maza from Hertha BSC.

Maza, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder, has made a particularly strong impression on Hofmann.

“We’ve definitely brought in some very, very good young players,” Hofmann told Kicker.

“When I see Ibo in training, if you give him a bit of time, he can become a really big player with the way he plays. You can already see that.”

Hofmann also points out that Florian Wirtz doesn’t necessarily have to be replaced by just one player instead, the new signings and the rest of the team can step up together.

“The lads have to take their chances and see that the opportunities are there. It can happen very fast, and we don’t necessarily have to buy a huge replacement the team and the young newcomers can fill the gap.”

Bayer Leverkusen are still working to strengthen their squad, with PSV’s Malik Tillman expected to be the next signing.
