Borussia Mönchengladbach have also held talks with Marinko Jurendić as a potential successor to Roland Virkus.

The Switzerland native with both Bosnian and Croatian roots is considered to be one of the candidates for the vacant role.

In terms of his managerial career, Jurendić started out with Aarau in the Swiss second tier before being appointed sporting director of FC Zürich.

He held that post at Zürich for three years between 2020 and 2023 until he was swiftly appointed as sporting director of FC Augsburg.

When Sefan Reuter resigned from his managing director post, Jurendić took up part of his responsibilities in his absence.

Jurendić, alongside coach Jess Thorup, were both sacked in late May 2025 “in the interests of continuing the development and direction of the club”.

Nonetheless, Rouven Schröder is the preferred choice, but everything depends on reaching an agreement with RB Salzburg - who must give consent, release him or be compensated.
