Kevin Trapp rules out international retirement

36-year-old Kevin Trapp is still thinking about playing international football. Jürgen Klopp opened the door for everyone in his first press conference as Germany head coach. Paris FC’s shot-stopper has now shared his dream to be back in the national team setup.

“You never really close this book (national team call),” said Trapp as he was in Germany for Paris FC’s friendly game at Mainz, which ended in a 4-0 defeat. “Last season was one of my best ever. If I can build on that and we keep playing successfully, we have to see what comes next," explained Trapp in hopes of convincing his former boss.

Klopp was Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull before taking his new responsibility. Red Bull GmbH has a reportedly 10.6% share of Paris FC as Klopp attended their training sessions and games on multiple occasions during his previous role.

"We all know what type of coach Jürgen Klopp is. He can take people with him, capture them and give energy. He was successful everywhere as a coach," Trapp praised the new Bundestrainer.

"I feel incredibly fit physically and mentally even at 36. I still have a contract until the end of next season. I'm fully focused on that. We’ll see what might happen after that.” added the former Eintracht Frankfurt and PSG goalkeeper.

Trapp was initially planned to be an understudy for youngster Obed Nkambadio at the then-newly-promoted Paris FC before winning his place as a starter. His nine Germany appearances came between 2017 and 2023. In total, he has been part of the squad in 74 games.
