Summer signing Ransford Königsdörffer scored his first goal for Mainz in their 3-0 friendly win over Holstein Kiel. Urs Fischer’s side have won all four of their first pre-season games ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Phillip Tietz and William Bøving scored the other goals for Mainz 05. 20-year-old Otto Ruoppi provided the assist for the opening goal by Tietz. Ruoppi spent the second half of last season on loan at KuPS after Mainz completed the transfer from the Finnish club for €1.3 million in February.

Mainz will travel to Hopfgarten (Austria) on Monday as they will play friendly games against Shababa Al Ahli and Udinese. World Cup participants Nadiem Amiri, Jae-sung Lee, Phillipp Mwene and Kaishu Sano will all return to the training camp, while Silvan Widmer, who reached the quarter-finals with Switzerland, is expected to join the team on August 6th.

Despite Mainz’s winning streak, Fischer wasn’t pleased with the performance against Kiel. "We were not so precise in the game with the ball today, not so clean.” said the head coach. Tim Walter’s Kiel will start their 2. Bundesliga campaign away at Darmstadt on August 8th.
