Last summer, Nadiem Amiri was linked with a move to RB Leipzig, but the transfer ultimately didn't materialise.

Now, fresh links have emerged between RB Leipzig and the Mainz midfielder, with Sport Bild reporting that the 29-year-old has been identified as a key option to strengthen and add experience to Die Roten Bullen’s midfield.

According to the report, new RB Leipzig head coach Martin Demichelis is planning to operate with two No. 8 midfielders.

With Christoph Baumgartner set to miss several months through injury, Amiri is seen as a player who could provide an immediate boost. He's not considered a direct replacement, though, and the two could play together once Baumgartner returns.

However, any major investment from Leipzig will depend on player sales, with significant signings only expected once sufficient financial room has been created. As a result, a potential deal could take time to develop.

Mainz, meanwhile, are under no pressure to sell, with Amiri under contract until 2028.

Amiri himself cast doubt on his Mainz future after the club’s final game of the 2025/26 season, refusing to rule out a summer departure.
