After Bayer Leverkusen’s top candidate to replace Kasper Hjulmand as head coach, Filipe Luís, seemingly opted to join AS Monaco instead, Oliver Glasner has now emerged as the frontrunner for the job at the BayArena.

According to Bild, Leverkusen are in advanced talks with the representatives of Glasner, who is set to leave Crystal Palace this summer.

The report adds that the Austrian coach can well imagine taking the job at Leverkusen, with talks expected to become more concrete with him as soon as Friday.

Should Bayer Leverkusen ultimately fail to reach an agreement with Glasner, departing AFC Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola is said to be the club’s backup option.

Glasner is no stranger to the German Bundesliga, having previously coached VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hjulmand remains under contract at Leverkusen until 2027 but appears to have no future at the BayArena, with the club expected to announce his departure once an agreement with his successor has been finalised.
