Gladbach have alleviated their relegation fears in recent weeks after claiming back-to-back victories. A 2-0 win over Hertha BSC was followed by a victory over Bochum via the same scoreline, although the contest against Thomas Reis’ side was marred by a beering throwing incident. Unfortunately, a plastic beer cup was thrown at one of the assistant referees, resulting in the contest being abandoned with under 20 minutes remaining.
With Gladbach leading 2-0 at the time of the abandonment, Die Fohlen were subsequently awarded the win, which helped move Adi Hütter’s side seven points clear of danger.
The Gladbach boss would have been pleased to see his team keep successive clean sheets in a season where Die Fohlen’s defence has looked vulnerable.
They will also be buoyed by the fact that they are unbeaten in their last three home games, with Gladbach finding the net at least twice in all of those contests.

Adi Hütter is unable to call upon the services of Marcus Thuram who has an adductor issue, while Tony Jantschke and Luca Netz are also ruled out.
Mainz 05
Mainz have experienced mixed results of late, with their last six games resulting in three wins, two defeats and a draw.
The most recent victory occurred in Mainz’s last outing, as they swept aside Arminia Bielefeld before the international break. Jonathan Burkardt scored his first goals of 2022, with one of those strikes resulting from a spot-kick, while two more penalties were dispatched by Moussa Niakhaté and Marcus Ingvartsen to guide Mainz to a 4-0 win over Bielefeld.
There has been a stark contrast between Mainz’s home and away form. Bo Svensson’s side boast the third-best home record, while they hold the second-worst away record in the Bundesliga after winning just two of their 12 away league games.
Team News
Anton Stach is expected to return to the starting lineup after serving a one-match suspension, but Mainz are without Dominik Kohr, who is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards.
