"First and foremost, one of them was to go back to the Bundesliga, which is a very, very challenging league. In addition, the talks with [Eintracht board member for sport] Markus Krösche. Both factors led me to choose Eintracht. I'm looking forward to the journey and the challenge, and I'm very happy about it," the former Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern player told Eintracht TV.
Götze, the father of a two-year-old son, added that his family naturally also had a say.
"For the family, it was important that I feel comfortable, that they feel comfortable and that we are back in Germany. And that I can play in the Champions League again. With the conditions here in the city of Frankfurt, it all comes together. That also includes the fans, the stadium and that my family can be part of it all."
Kevin Trapp and Sebastian Rode also played a part in Götze's decision to come to Frankfurt.
"I played with Kevin Trapp in the national team and with Sebastian Rode at Dortmund and Bayern. That's how we know each other. We texted and spoke briefly on the phone, and it was all consistently positive," said Götze.
"That they won [the Europa League] was gigantic for the two of them, the whole team and the club. That's how the whole thing came about, how I started toying with the idea and exchanged ideas with the two of them."
