Report: Hertha and Salernitana attempt to work out shared-salary loan for Piatek

According to the editors of Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio's website, Hertha BSC's latest attempts to offload Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek center around a complex loan arrangement with Serie A side US Salernitana 1919.

Before bringing in their preferred candidate to lead the striking corps, Ludovic Ajorque of Racing Strasbourg, Fredi Bobic and the administrative team at Hertha BSC must yet again address the problem of getting Krzysztof Piatek off the payroll. The Polish striker, recently returned from a loan-out to AS Fiorentina, earns a reported €3.5 million annually as part of the record-breaking €27 million transfer that brought him to Berlin in January 2020.

After what one might generously describe as gross underachieving in the German capital, Piatek now possesses an estimated market worth of only €12 million. Fiorentina declined to exercise a reported €15 purchase option in his last loan agreement and Hertha can find no takers for their desired recoup amount on the large net loss. Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio's website claims that Bobic and the front office are currently negotiating with US Salernitana 1919 on a new loan deal.

Salernitana hardly qualifies as a rich club and, as such, are demanding that Hertha assume at least part of the responsibility for the 27-year-old's salary. A new investor has recently come aboard to help the Serie A side beef up their roster, but the Garnets have already spent some €40 million in the current transfer window. Di Marzio's website notes that Piatek desires the move. Both clubs understandably still have a ways to go in terms of finding a mutually amicable solution.
