Any potential return of BVB striker Sébastien Haller has now officially been pushed to the back-burner after it was revealed on Saturday that the 28-year-old's surgically-removed testicular tumor was, in fact, malignantly cancerous. Haller is now scheduled for chemotherapy.

The news does not necessarily rule the Ivorian attacker out beyond the new calendar year. FC Union Berlin defender Timo Baumgartl also had to undergo chemo for a similar condition some five months ago and could return to the pitch soon.

Dortmund nevertheless sought to take sporting issues off the table and focus instead on the player's personal health via a public statement released by BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

"Sebastien will now receive the best possible treatment," Kehl noted in a statement, "Chances for recovery are very good. We wish him and his family a lot of strength and send optimistic thoughts to him during this difficult time."
