Daichi Kamada leads Frankfurt past Magdeburg

It was an exciting game to watch with an incredible atmosphere at the MDCC-Arena, as Daichi Kamada's brace led Frankfurt through Magdeburg 4-0 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
Both teams roared out of the gate and created chances on goal. For a 2. Bundesliga side going up against a club in the Champions League, Magdeburg were fearless in their pressing. Even with raucous home support, Frankfurt's quality proved too much as they moved on with a 4-0 victory.

Unsurprisingly, Filip Kostić started things off down the left, as he put a cross on a plate for Daichi Kamada to score in the 4th minute. Magdeburg were quick and efficient with the ball, drawing a penalty of their own. But, they ran into a slight problem.

A guy by the name of Kevin Trapp.

The Frankfurt hero saved Andreas Müller's penalty, dealing a huge blow to Magdeburg's hopes. After Ansgar Knauff's shot was blocked by keeper Dominik Reimann, Jesper Lindstrøm curled one into the corner of the net to increase Frankfurt's lead.

The game slowed down in the second half as Frankfurt broke Magdeburg's will to fight with more offensive prowess. Daichi Kamada secured his brace with a goal in the 59th minute and Lucas Alario added his first goal in a Frankfurt shirt to end the game.

Magdeburg supporters should be pleased with the confidence and aggression their club showed, especially in that first half. While they left themselves ridiculously open at the back on several occasions, this is the type of football that people want to watch.

If Frankfurt can hold onto Kostić and Evan Ndicka, Oliver Glasner has a dangerously deep squad that should scare off Bundesliga opponents this season.
