Officials at the cathedral city side, which prepares to make its 2022/23 Bundesliga debut today, understandably did not wish to comment. Köln's leading goalscorer from last season has long been on the transfer block due to his high annual salary. At present, it is not known just how the BVB will acquire the 34-year-old. Both a loan and straight purchase could be arranged.
Modeste scored 23 goals and chipped in six assists last year for die Geißböcke across all competitions. BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl did not comment on the specifics of the Dortmund striker hunt when speaking to the Sky microphones after last night's victory. The club manager did drop strong hints that a specific candidate had been identified and that a deal should be completed soon.
