Tedesco takes no positives from rout: "That was nothing."
RB Leipzig trainer Domenico Tedesco found himself in no mood to sugarcoat anything after this side's 0-4 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Practically no one watching Eintracht Frankfurt's 4-0 demolition of RB Leipzig at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday evening had the impression that there were much positives to take from Leipzig's performance. RB trainer Domenico Tedesco himself blasted his team for their languid display and made no attempt to hide his displeasure.
"This game was deservedly lost, highly deserved," Tedesco noted, "We can talk about lost points in Stuttgart [1-1; round one] or also at Union Berlin [1-2; round three], in which there were good phases. But today, that was nothing. We completely missed the basics. We weren't on the pitch at all in the first half. I can honestly say that we had zero aggression."
"We lost the balls so quickly," the gaffer continued, "Of course, Frankfurt also did well, but we were lousy. If you play three systems and nothing changes, then it's simply down to mentality."
Emil Forsberg, moved around quite a bit as part of the "three system changes" Tedesco referred to, was forced to concur.
"To win here, you also have to win duels," Forsberg noted afterwards, "But that was too bad from us, everything was bad from us. I don't think we won a single duel. And we deserved to lose. We have to understand what we have to do."
Leipzig find themselves, along with all of Germany's other European representatives, heading into an insanely hectic schedule over the next two months with almost non-stop-games as the European club competitions aim to complete the group stages before the World Cup break.
Of Germany's eight representatives in the European competitions, Leipzig and Leverksuen are off to very poor starts in the league campaign. Leipzig have taken just five points from fife rounds. The only small consultation for the German Red Bulls is that they are at least in mid-table after one win and two draws.
That didn't seem to make Tedesco more optimistic about his forthcoming task.
"You can only enjoy the Champions League if things are going well in the league," Tedesco said, "a shame that's not the case."
