Glasner delivers fresh injury news ahead of Wolfsburg

By Peter Weis   @PeterVicey

After more players picked up knocks in the midweek Champions' League tie, Eintracht Frankfurt head-coach Oliver Glasner faces some serious personnel problems as he prepares to face his former club Wolfsburg this weekend.

Eintracht Frankfurt picked up two additional injury casualties during this week's UCL loss to Sporting Lisbon. Starting left-back Christopher Lenz picked up a thigh injury and had to be subbed off at the half. Intriguing new midfield acquisition Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe also had to be yanked early with stamina and cramping issues.

Both Lenz and Ebimbe themselves were already filling in for injured players Luca Pellegrini and Sebastian Rode, respectively. At his his Thursday presser, Glasner furnished updates on everyone. SGE skipper Rode most likely won't be available until after the international break. Lenz too won't be available until October.

When it came to the cases of Pellegrini and Ebimbe, Glasner noted that he did not feel comfortable deploying either one for 90 minutes. Pellegrini's situation relates to injury, while Ebimbe simply doesn't have the fitness levels yet. The SGE trainer emphasized that Ebimbe "had already played more games than he did the entire year at PSG."

Glasner may have difficulty deploying a back-four this weekend in light of these issues. The Frankfurt defensive ranks are already quite thin, with midfielder Kristijan Jakic functioning was a makeshift right-back in the last three matches. Two recently acquired defenders - Aurelio Buta and Jerome Onguéné - have yet to make their debut for the club due to injuries.

Glasner confirmed on Thursday that Onguéné, who did make the bench squad a couple of times this year, had suffered another strain and would be out for weeks. The gaffer seemed noticeably frustrated with all this news and did lose patience when a reporter questioned the personnel decisions and conditioning methods of the clubs.

"We've tried tto take preventive action as best as possible," Glasner noted with something of a sigh, "but we have to admit it. With these players, who were already injured a lot last year, we didn't succeed this year."
