Union chief defends Kruse after Wolfsburg omission
Union Berlin chief Oliver Ruhnert has backed Max Kruse after it was announced on Saturday that the 34-year-old has played his last game for Wolfsburg.
VfL Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac declared on Saturday that Max Kruse will not feature for the club again, citing a lack of professionalism and commitment as the reasons behind the drastic decision.
According to Union Berlin chief Oliver Ruhnert, however, Kruse is by no means untrainable.
In an interview with ZDF on Saturday, Ruhnert defended the former Union Berlin player, saying the 34-year-old doesn't cause any problems if he's coached the right way.
"I firmly believe that you can always manage Max Kruse if you know what he's like," Ruhnert said.
Ruhnert added that he sees Kruse as a "gifted player" with the ability to "do things that other players won't learn, even if they train for 10 years."
Whether a move back to Union could be on the cards for Kruse is unclear at this point.
