Germany will look to extend a run of 13 matches without losing when they face Hungary, the surprise leaders of the UEFA Nations League League A3, in a top-of-the-group clash at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Friday evening.

With Germany currently sitting second, one point behind Hungary, a win would put them in pole position to qualify for the Nations League semifinals for the first time.

The four-time World Cup winners will have to manage without two of their key players, though, with Bayern duo Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka ruled out due to COVID-19. Julian Brandt has also been forced to withdraw from the squad due to illness.

Neuer's absence means Marc-André ter Stegen will be between the sticks, as confirmed by Germany coach Hansi Flick at the pre-match press conference.

"Marc-André ter Stegen will be in goal. The losses of Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka are also a good warning for the World Cup. We don’t know what will happen in Qatar, this could also happen to us there. We have to react to it and deal with the situation as best we can," Flick said.

On the bright side for Germany, Bayern wonderkid Jamal Musiala is an option despite picking up a knock in training.

"Jamal is always a good option and a joy to watch on the ball. He has an open cut. We all know that it is painful, but he has done very well in training. He is completely ready to play," revealed Flick.

Like Germany, Hungary have a couple of notable absentees, with Zsolt Nagy and Roland Sallai both out due to injury.
