Boëtius' surgery a success, midfielder remains out for the rest of 2022
Hertha BSC midfielder Jean-Paul Boëtius thanked both his fans and his club with an instagram post from his hospital bed on Saturday.

Whether or not Boëtius will have to undergo chemotherapy as part of a further treatment course is unknown at this point. Irrespective of whether (like Union Berlin's Timo Baumgartl and Borussia Dortmund's Sebastien Haller), radiation rounds will be necessary, or, (like Hertha BSC's Marco Richter) the treatment can be avoided, Boëtius will not play football again this calendar year.
Richter was able to return to training after six weeks of recovery. Boëtius thus does not have enough time to make it back for Hertha for the coming World Cup break. From a medical standpoint, it remains a pure coincidence that four German top tier footballers have been diagnosed with testicular cancer in the last six months.
