Flick speaks on Füllkrug's World Cup chances: "What he does has a lot of merit."
Reached for comment for the first time about potentially taking the Bundesliga's current leading goalscorer with him to Qatar, Bundestrainer Hans Dieter-Flick gave both Niclas Fülllkrug a rave review. Flick also of Mats Hummels with a wide grin.
Hansi Flick has already taken in a pair of games this weekend. The German national team trainer was in Sinsheim last night in order to scout Werder-Hoffenheim. The man responsible for building Germany's World Cup squad in shortly over a month's time watched as Niclas Füllkrug covered the game-winning penalty and, in the process, gave himself more room up top as the Bundesliga's leading-scorer.
Flick commented on Füllkrug shortly before the Bayern-Dortmund fixture, which he also attended, kicked off.
"I saw him yesterday. What he does has a lot of merit," Flick noted, " He's having a very good run now and I think he's doing really well and may bring an element to our team that we don't have in our current form. We see a few players in this position in the Bundesliga who could possibly strengthen us in the 26-man squad."
Füllkrug not only tallied, but set up a wonderful goal for Marvin Ducksch in the first half. Füllkrug also proved a splendid provider for a Mitchell Weiser goal in last week's 5-1 romp over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
"He and Ducksch play really well together," Flick added, "Ordinarily, it's the other way around. Ducksch sets it up and he but yesterday it was really good. He's a candidate."
Obviously, reporters wanted to know what Flick felt about Mats Hummels' recent surge in form as well. The 33-year-old has risen from the ashes. Though some fitness issues associated with a bout with illness prevented him from playing the second half against Bayern today, the BVB have still only conceded four goals whilst Hummels is on the pitch.
Keeping it blunt, yet still smiling, Flick merely noted that he was "pleased that Mats is in such good form."
