Reus and Terzic won't give up on league or cup: "Everything remains possible."
BVB trainer Edin Terzic and squad captain Marco Reus were understandably dejected after suffering such a humiliating defeat against title-rivals Bayern in the Saturday evening Top Spiel.
Both actors nevertheless sought to emphasize that neither the quest for the league title nor the chase for the domestic cup were over just yet.
Following Saturday night's humiliating defeat, Borussia Dortmund trainer Edin Terzic couldn't summon up much of a vocabulary in his post-match interview. The Dortmund gaffer resorted to the word "shit" quite a lot. The story of the game was overly relatively quicker. In truth, there wasn't much to analyze. Dortmund's captain basically concurred.
Both actors nevertheless sought to emphasize that neither the quest for the league title nor the chase for the domestic cup were over just yet.
"We uncharacteristically allowed almost constant counterattacks." the BVB captain admitted, "And Bayern played it well and could have scored more goals in one or two situations. It was not a good evening."
Reus naturally had to address the effect that Gregor Kobel's early goalkeeping error had on the competitive nature of the match. The 33-year-old emphasized that Kobel's teammates understood that "we're all human". The fact that the 0-2 and 0-3 came so quickly was what, per Reus, truly killed off the match.
"That messes with your self confidence," Reus said before stressing that the team which had clawed its way from sixth place in the Bundesliga table at the winter break to first just before kickoff didn't need to hang their heads over a two-point-deficit, "but we've made up greater point differentials before."
"We have to work our way through this and show a reaction in the cup [Leipzig in the DFB Pokal quarterfinals] next week," Reus emphasized, "We have to analyze this and prepare for Leipzig. This season is not over yet. Everything is still possible."
Terzic echoed similar sentiments, saying that he had faith in the team to take out the defending DFB Pokal Champions on Wednesday. Terzic himself - at the time serving as an interim placeholder for Marco Rose - led Dortmund to the cup with a victory over Leipzig in the May 2021 final.
"It is what it is and it's shit," Terzic said of Saturday's result, "Total shit how we behaved in many situations. We took too long to react to the setbacks and couldn't shake them off. We'll be boarding the plane home very disappointed. It hurts. It hurts a lot."
