Dominant Leipzig see off Dortmund in DFB-Pokal
Reigning DFB-Pokal Champions RB Leipzig deservedly beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 tonight to book their place in the semi-finals.
RB Leipzig secured the fourth and final spot in the DFB-Pokal semifinals tonight with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig started the game on the front foot and were all over the visitors in the first half.
Gregor Kobel did well to keep out Dani Olmo's low shot in the 12th minute, but could do nothing to prevent Timo Werner from opening the scoring on 22 minutes. Mohamed Simakan beat Mats Hummels to the ball and found the Germany international, who slotted home.
Kobel was called into action several more times in a first half that could have seen more than one goal for the hosts.
Leipzig didn't create quite as many chances after the break, but remained in control. Konrad Laimer was in a good position to put the game to bed 12 minutes from time, but he was denied by another good save from Kobel, who kept BVB in the game.
Dortmund eventually came close to equalizing in stoppage time with their first shot on goal, but Jamie Bynoe-Gittens' effort was pushed out for a corner by Janis Blaswich.
Kobel went up the pitch for the resulting corner kick, which was cleared by Leipzig, who immediately counter-attacked and killed the game off, with Willi Orban making it 2-0.
With the win, defending DFB-Pokal champions Leipzig join Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg and Stuttgart in the semi-finals.
