Tah on task of marking Kolo Muani: "I was up for it."

Jonathan Tah reflected on what was a heavy duty day for him after Leverkusen's 3-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt during his post-match interview.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen were able to exact revenge on Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday for a humiliating 1-5 defeat suffered in the 2022/23 campaign's reverse fixture. Xabi Alonso's Werkself beat back Frankfurt 3-1, in the process moving ahead of Oliver Glasner's team for the second Europa League qualification spot.

For often-maligned and likely-to-depart this summer Bayer defender Jonathan Tah, it was quite the busy day at the office. The sometimes-shaky 27-year-old had the unenviable task of marking the almost impossible to defend Frankfurt Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani. By all accounts, Tah did a very good job.

"I was aware that it wouldn't be easy," Tah said in his post-match interview with Sky Germany, "but my mind was perfectly agile. I'm in good form and felt good. I was up for it."

Leverkusen dominated Frankfurt during the opening 45, rushing out to a 2-0 lead via goals from Amine Adli and Moussa Diaby. Djibril Sow made things interesting only towards the end with a pull-back goal 20 minutes before the end of normal time.

Tah admitted his role in the 1-2.

"After conceding the goal, things got a bit dicey again," Tah remarked, "and it didn't have to be that way. It did feel good to start the game so strongly. We were wide awake and present in and the duels. We're working together as a team and everyone is helping out everyone. That's what characterizes our play at the moment."

Trainer Alonso also commend his team for their "total control" of the first-half. While Sow's goal "proved that there's still work to be done", the Spanish gaffer was still all smiles after his team's seventh straight win on-the-trot. Leverkusen are up to seventh-place with the victory.
