Dortmund boss: 'Witsel is one of the best BVB signings of the past 10 years'

Borussia Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke believes Axel Witsel is one of the club's best signings of the past 10 years.
Axel Witsel has been praised for the huge influence he has had at Borussia Dortmund since completing a €20 million move from Chinese side TJ Tianhai (formerly known as Quanjian Tianjin) in the summer.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has been blown away by the central midfielder whom he describes as one of the club's best signings of the past 10 years.

"Axel is a fundamentally important player for us - together with Marco Reus, he's one of the absolute leaders. Witsel is one of the best BVB signings of the past 10 years," Watzke told Bild.

Meanwhile, BVB sporting director Michael Zorc describes the 30-year-old as a 'world class player'.

"Axel is extremely important for us. He oozes confidence - both on the inside and the outside. He gives our game the right structure. Axel is a world class player," Zorc told Bild.

Witsel has made 26 appearances for Dortmund, scoring five goals and making one assist.
