Borussia Mönchengladbach are said to be interested in signing Werder Bremen captain Max Kruse when his contract runs out in the summer, Express.de understands.

According to the German media outlet, Kruse is likely to leave Werder Bremen this summer if the club fail to qualify for a European competition.

In that case, Gladbach could bring Kruse back. The 30-year-old spent two seasons at Borussia-Park from 2013 to 2015, and Gladbach boss Max Eberl doesn't want to rule out that the striker could return.

"Max Kruse is a great player. He has gone a great way after the severe injury he suffered from at the beginning of his career. You can't exclude anything in football," Eberl said, as quoted by Express.de.

Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be following Kruse's progress due to his expiring contract.

Kruse left Gladbach to join Wolfsburg in 2015. He then went on to join Werder after just one season at Volkswagen Arena.
